Lake Hefner Kiteboarding

If you live around Oklahoma City and are passing by Lake Hefner, you may see some people flying huge kites... Upon further inspection you may notice the people are attached to the giant kites and are zipping around the lake, like truly surfing on the water by allowing the kite to propel them. "Kiteboarding" on Lake Hefner has to be one of the most fun-looking sports I have ever witnessed. Recently we found out how to become a "Kiteboarder" or like my wife Myriah says "Wind Surfer." You can schedule appointments for two classes to learn how to kiteboard. The first lesson is on land, and the instructors teach you how to do everything you need to know in the water on land. The second lesson puts you in the water to put to practice everything you learned in the prior lesson, and practice working with a bigger kite. According to the website they spend two hours on the first lesson for $100 and $175 for the second three hour water lesson. They teach you everything you would need in order to become a surfer! If you sign up with a friend or with a group you can get a 20% discount. That's awesome.
No worries, Myriah is not going to be wind-surfing, as our child is due in February. But before this Summer is up for you, this is another example of some exciting OKC flavor. Enjoy!

What: Lake Hefner Kiteboarding lessons
When: Every Saturday at 10:00 AM, or one on one lessons weekdays from 8:00-5:00PM, depending on at least a 15mph wind
